Many of you have been following my journey as I was making 1 Million steps to raise awareness about the suffering of 1,000 unaccompanied children who are currently stuck in Greek refugee camps. It‘s been a while since I last updated you. I needed a couple of weeks to recharge my batteries but now I am back!
I started my journey End of October in Paris and arrived in Berlin on December 9, after walking 1,000 Kilometers and making 1 Million Steps. My goal was to get the European Governments to give these 1,000 children asylum but so far nothing has happened. The children are alone, some of them are as young as 8 years old and are being raped. Many kids try to commit suicide. The European tax payer is paying for all of this i.e. it‘s the responsibility of each and every one of us!
As I was walking through Germany I met with over a dozen mayors who promised me to give the children a home IF the German Government would act. When I arrived in Berlin I met with over 27 German MPs from EVERY party who all support my initiative. I am not a politician so I didn‘t know who could make the decision to give the children asylum. But I quickly learnt that the person who would be able to make the decision is Horst Seehofer, the German interior minister. So I sent several emails and letters to his office. I haven‘t heard back as of yet but I am still hoping that he will do the right thing.
So here is my plea: Dear Mr Seehofer, Please save the 1,000 unaccompanied children who are currently stuck in Greek refugee camps. It is in your hands whether these children live or die. I know that you have a big heart and so I expect you to do the right thing. Yours, Grigorij Richters
Right now you can auction the 45 year old VW Bus that followed me on my journey. Friends of mine drove it as I was walking. It is my “petition on wheels” and has been signed by over 4,500 people, mayors, MPs, rockstars like Helge Schneider, the Kelly Family and Influencers Lisa and Lena. It will also be signed by QUEEN legend Dr. Brian May, astronaut Chris Hadfield and Hollywood legend Dame Judi Dench. The money of the auction will go to the children via the United Nations in Germany (UNO-Flüchtlingshilfe).
My next steps are as follows: I will auction off the car, we will keep writing the German interior minister Seehofer, we will organise an event at the European Parliament in February and we will launch a Kickstarter Campaign to make a feature film about this journey which will raise even more awareness.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
